In the early hours of the 20th June 1895 the German imperial yacht ‚Hohenzollern‘ – on board the Emperor Wilhelm II. – slipped into the lock at Brunsbüttel, shortly afterwards cut a ribbon and officially opened the new waterway transitting to Holtenau.
